MetaMask is addressing an ongoing security incident affecting its infrastructure and has taken precautionary measures by exiting affected staking validators. According to MetaMask, it has not identified any immediate threat to user wallets but is working with external partners and security advisors to investigate the issue.

The exit of validators involves those within non-custodial staking operations on the Lido protocol. Lido Finance developer Will Shannon stated that affected ETH will return to the protocol after completing an exit, withdrawal, and re-entry cycle, estimated to take up to 45 days due to an extended entry queue.

The final affected validators are expected to exit by October 7, which could result in foregone rewards and possible downtime penalties. MetaMask emphasized that it is addressing the incident internally and working with external partners to resolve the issue.
