MetaMask Exits Validators After Infrastructure Security Incident

MetaMask has started exiting affected Ethereum validators after identifying a security incident involving its infrastructure. The company is coordinating the response with Lido Finance, clients, and security advisers.

The issue affects MetaMask's non-custodial staking operations, but Lido said no action is required for stETH holders as the protocol manages the return of $ETH from the affected validators.

Lido expects the affected validators to complete their exits by October 7, 2026. However, the exit stage may not necessarily mean completed withdrawals. $ETH must go through both the exit and withdrawal processes before returning to the protocol and eventually re-entering validators.
