MetaMask Exits Validators Amid Security Incident
MetaMask has taken measures to address a security incident affecting part of its infrastructure. The company stated that there is no immediate risk to MetaMask wallets, but as a precaution, it is proactively exiting affected Ethereum validators within its non-custodial staking operations.
The issue is currently under investigation and will be fixed through collaboration with outside service providers and security advisors. MetaMask emphasized that users are not immediately at risk for their MetaMask wallets. The company's model is non-custodial, meaning withdrawal keys for the assets they stake are not managed by the company.
Lido validators have also been affected by the security measures taken by MetaMask. Lido provided a timeline update on other affected validators, stating that the final affected validators will exit by October 7, 2021. The re-entry of these funds into the Ethereum protocol could take up to 45 days.
