Metaplanet Boosts Bitcoin Holdings Through Strategic Sale and Repurchase
Metaplanet has increased its Bitcoin holdings by 1,000 coins after a strategic sale and repurchase during the third quarter. The company sold 10,000 BTC for ¥124.7 billion (US$760 million) and later bought back 11,000 BTC for ¥149.9 billion (US$900 million). This move demonstrates Metaplanet’s ability to convert its Bitcoin holdings into cash when needed, according to CEO Simon Gerovich.
The transaction has positioned Metaplanet as the world’s second-largest corporate Bitcoin treasury, with 44,000 BTC, surpassing Twenty One Capital. The strategy aligns with Gerovich’s goal of generating recurring revenue and reducing the company’s effective cost of capital as it enters its next growth phase.
Meanwhile, Strategy, led by Michael Saylor, added 334 BTC to its holdings, bringing its total to 848,000 BTC. The purchase, valued at US$29 million, highlights Strategy’s ongoing commitment to Bitcoin accumulation. The company also reported a US$21 billion gain on its digital asset holdings in the third quarter and repurchased US$176 million worth of its own shares.
In contrast, US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw net outflows of US$89.8 million at the start of the week, driven by withdrawals from Fidelity’s FBTC and ARK Invest’s ARKB. BlackRock’s IBIT managed to attract US$69.9 million in inflows, partially offsetting the losses.
