Metaplanet Boosts Bitcoin Holdings to 44,000 BTC Amid New Investment Strategy
Metaplanet, a Japanese Bitcoin financial company, added a net 1,000 BTC in the third quarter, bringing its total holdings to 44,000 BTC. The company sold 10,000 BTC for approximately $789.2 million, averaging $78,925 per coin, before repurchasing 11,000 BTC for $948.7 million at an average of $86,246.
The company temporarily held the proceeds in cash to demonstrate its liquidity and ability to cover outstanding interest-bearing debt, although these obligations were not repaid. Metaplanet's CEO, Simon Gerovich, stated that the company's objective is to build the leading Bitcoin financial company in Asia.
Metaplanet also introduced a Net Interest Income Strategy, targeting investments in preferred securities issued by Bitcoin treasury companies. The company plans to allocate approximately 10% to 15% of its total assets to these investments, seeking returns above its funding costs to service obligations and support further Bitcoin purchases.
