Metaplanet Sets Sights on Up to $3.4 Billion Funding Potential with Super League Acquisition
Metaplanet's acquisition of Super League Enterprise could unlock up to $3.4 billion for its US Bitcoin treasury strategy, but a significant portion of this potential funding remains conditional.
The deal involves Metaplanet investing 2,100 BTC and $2.5 million in exchange for approximately 44.9 million Super League shares priced at $3 each. This would give Metaplanet around 95.7% control over the company's common stock and board control. Super League would subsequently be renamed to Superplanet and seek to trade under the ticker SUPA.
According to Simon Gerovich, CEO of Metaplanet, 'The strategy now runs on two engines. Superplanet raises in America. Metaplanet raises in Japan. Both feed a single Bitcoin position that never leaves the group.'
The companies expect the transaction to close by the end of the fourth quarter, subject to shareholder approval and Nasdaq requirements. However, much of the capital designed to expand Superplanet's Bitcoin strategy would come later and is not guaranteed.
