Metaplanet's BTC Holdings Surge to 44,000 Amid Strategic Moves
Metaplanet, a company focused on Bitcoin financial services, has made significant moves in the third quarter of 2026. The company sold 10,000 BTC for approximately $789.2 million, averaging $78,925 per coin, before purchasing 11,000 BTC for $948.7 million at an average of $86,246. This net addition of 1,000 BTC brought Metaplanet's holdings to 44,000 BTC as of September 30.
The sale and repurchase were intended to demonstrate the company's ability to turn Bitcoin into cash, and also to cover outstanding interest-bearing debt. CEO Simon Gerovich stated that the objective has been to build the leading Bitcoin financial company in Asia.
Metaplanet has also introduced a Net Interest Income Strategy, targeting investments in preferred securities issued by Bitcoin treasury companies. This strategy is aimed at generating recurring income streams and lowering the effective cost of capital. The company's Bitcoin Income Generation business has now generated revenue for eight consecutive quarters.
The company's revised capital allocation policy includes keeping 85% to 90% of its assets in Bitcoin, with up to 15% allocated to investments that can generate recurring income. Metaplanet plans to allocate 10% to 15% of its assets to preferred securities issued by Bitcoin treasury companies, seeking returns above its funding costs to service obligations and support further Bitcoin purchases.
