Metaplanet's recent acquisition of Siiibo Securities for ¥2.1B ($13M) is more than just a minor brokerage purchase, according to Benchmark.

The analyst argues that the deal provides Metaplanet with the necessary regulatory foundation to build a Bitcoin-backed 'Bitbonds' market in Japan.

Metaplanet plans to use this new platform to issue debt and fund its own BTC holdings, offering yields of around 4-6%.

The company's goal is to create what LeClair calls 'a new kind of financial institution from Japan, with bitcoin at its core.'
