Mexican Cartel Ties Suspected in Clandestine Bitcoin Farm Discovery

A clandestine Bitcoin farm has been discovered in the mountains of Central Mexico, sparking concerns about cartel funding and money laundering. The farm was uncovered due to its excessive electricity consumption, which is a significant cost for mining cryptocurrency.

The operation, located near a hydroelectric dam in Puebla state, consisted of 300 graphics processing units (GPUs), 80 medium-voltage terminals, and eight satellite antennae. This represents the fourth such crypto farm discovered in the area since early last year.

David Saucedo, a Mexico-based security analyst, believes that setting up such an operation would have required technical expertise and backing from a well-financed group, likely one of Mexico's most powerful cartels.
