MicroStrategy Reserve Capital Tops S&P 500 Financials Except One
MicroStrategy claims its reserve capital now surpasses that of every financial firm in the S&P 500 except Berkshire Hathaway. According to a statement from CEO Michael Saylor, MicroStrategy's total reserve capital is higher than all other firms in the index.
The company's first Bitcoin purchase was made in August 2020 for $250 million, and it has since increased its holdings to 845,050 BTC, valued at around $65.2 billion. Adding dollar assets of $6.7 billion brings the total reserve capital to $72.3 billion.
Chief Executive Phong Le stated that MicroStrategy's reserve is now up 34% to $72 billion over the last two months, with no net leverage. The company has also seen its preferred shares pay dividends and increase by 10%.
The ranking is based on a metric created by MicroStrategy itself, which strips senior claims from liquid reserves. However, some may argue that this metric has limitations and does not adhere to standard accounting practices.
