MicroStrategy Touts Permanent Capital Advantage Over JPMorgan
MicroStrategy, a company that owns a significant amount of Bitcoin, is making a bold claim about its financial stability compared to JPMorgan. According to MicroStrategy's latest presentation to investors, 91% of its balance sheet is funded by 'permanent capital', meaning it has no depositors who can withdraw their funds at any time.
This contrasts with JPMorgan, which relies on deposits that can be withdrawn by customers at any moment, creating a potential funding gap. MicroStrategy's balance sheet is also largely composed of its Bitcoin holdings, valued at around $66.8 billion and acquired at an average cost of $75,415 per coin.
The company claims that this design makes it more stable than traditional financial institutions like JPMorgan, which are vulnerable to bank runs and other crises. However, MicroStrategy's reliance on Bitcoin also means that it is exposed to significant risks, including a potential decline in the cryptocurrency's value.
