Midterm Elections Loom: Will US Politics Dampen Bitcoin's Rally?
Bitcoin's price rally has been gaining momentum since July, rising by 42% over the past three months. However, some analysts are warning that a significant correction may be on the horizon due to an upcoming event.
According to Ali Martinez, a popular analyst, the US midterms in November could divert Bitcoin from its potential bullish path and trigger a substantial correction. This is based on historical data showing that after previous midterms in 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022, Bitcoin's price fell by 72%, 65%, 52%, and 27% respectively.
Historical patterns suggest that the fourth quarter can be a volatile period for Bitcoin. In Q4 2010, the cryptocurrency pumped almost 400%, but in subsequent years it posted losses of 16.7% in Q4 2014, 42.16% in Q4 2018, and 14.75% in Q2022.
Martinez warned that seasonality suggests investors should be prepared for volatility as the fourth quarter begins. He also noted that Bitcoin's short-term holder cost basis near $73,000 could become a key support zone if the upcoming post-midterm pattern repeats.
