Miners Swap ASICs for AI Servers as Electricity Becomes Asset

Bitcoin miners are shifting their focus from cryptocurrency mining to artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC), as electricity becomes a valuable asset in itself. According to CoinShares' Q2 2026 mining report, listed Bitcoin miners fell below aggregate cash breakeven due to record-low hashprice.

Several operators are retiring hashrate and redirecting power towards AI and HPC, taking advantage of the growing demand for electricity from AI developers. Grid connections have become strategic assets as U.S. data-center projects face years-long interconnection delays.

Investors are already paying higher valuation multiples for miners with contracted AI capacity, recognizing that access to electricity is becoming a valuable asset in itself. The strongest part of the AI thesis lies not in computing hardware but in electricity.
