Monero Surges as EU Ban and Ransomware Incident Boost Demand
Monero (XMR) has surged nearly 17% in response to regulatory scrutiny and a major security incident. The European Union's planned ban on regulated exchanges trading or holding XMR by July 10, 2027, has sparked renewed interest in the privacy-focused token.
A reported ransomware demand of 6,000 XMR (approximately $3 million) from digital bank Revolut after a breach affecting around 680 customers also contributed to the surge. Monero's default privacy characteristics continue to attract niche demand.
Technical analysis indicates a firmly bullish structure, with XMR/USD trading above key moving averages and strong momentum signals dominating across multiple indicators. The price has surged $87.72 (16.85%) today, with an upside gap of about $42.2 (8.1%).
