Pakistan Stymied by IMF Over Bitcoin Mining Electricity Rates

The Pakistani government's efforts to secure concessional electricity rates for Bitcoin mining operations have hit a roadblock. According to Ministry of Energy sources, Pakistan has been unable to obtain approval from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on this proposal.

As part of its broader plans to develop the digital asset and data center sector in the country, the government had sought lower electricity rates for Bitcoin mining under a specific proposal. However, it seems that an understanding between Pakistan and the IMF has yet to be reached on the matter.

The issue is expected to be discussed again during the upcoming talks between Pakistan and the IMF scheduled for September 22. These discussions will focus on the fourth review of the country's $7 billion Extended Fund Facility program.
