MoonPay Bolsters Institutional Crypto Ambitions with North Capital Acquisition

Share

MoonPay, a Miami-based payments company, is expanding its presence in the institutional crypto market through a $60 million all-stock deal to acquire North Capital. The SEC-registered firm will add to MoonPay's regulatory footprint and provide access to services that require broker-dealer or investment adviser oversight.

The acquisition marks the ninth purchase made by MoonPay since 2025, with previous deals including Sodot for $100 million in April 2026 and Helio for $175 million. North Capital brings a crucial aspect, regulatory registration with the SEC itself, to MoonPay's growing list of acquisitions.

MoonPay has been building its infrastructure through these purchases, aiming to become a full-stack financial services provider serving both retail and institutional clients across custody, payments, and compliant investment products. The company generates revenue from transaction fees and service fees rather than token inflation, making it more appealing to institutional clients and regulators.
