MoonPay Unveils PayBox: A Secure Payment Vault for AI Assistants

MoonPay has launched PayBox, a payment vault that allows ChatGPT and Claude to initiate crypto payments and blockchain transactions within predetermined limits set by users.

Wallet keys are split across hardware-isolated enclaves, preventing any single party from signing alone. This ensures security even if the user's device is compromised.

The system also uses passkeys, spending limits, and a kill switch to prevent unrestricted AI spending. Users can revoke an agent's access or trigger a kill switch if their device or credentials appear compromised.

PayBox integrates with x402, an open payment standard that allows agents to pay APIs directly without requiring human intervention. This enables software to discover services, read prices, and pay within approved budgets without pausing for human checkout.
