MyEtherWallet Enters Tokenized Stocks Market with Ondo Integration
MyEtherWallet (MEW), one of Ethereum's longest-running wallet brands, is expanding its services to include tokenized stocks. This move marks a significant shift for the company as it aims to become an 'onchain finance' interface.
According to Katya Michaels, MEW's head of content and community, the company's product roadmap is designed to evolve from a simple self-custody tool into an asset-management layer that can hold and interact with multiple asset classes. This includes not only cryptocurrencies but also real-world assets (RWAs) and equity-linked tokens.
MEW launched in 2015 as a web interface for Ethereum wallet creation and asset management. In the years since, it has expanded its services to include mobile wallets, support for Ethereum staking, and early adoption of DeFi and layer-2 functionality. The company now supports exposure to Bitcoin (BTC), Solana (SOL), RWAs, tokenized stocks, and perpetual futures.
MEW emphasizes the importance of an open-source, client-side, non-custodial model, which allows users to maintain control of their private keys and assets. This approach is seen as a key differentiator for MEW in a market where custodial exchanges and brokers are increasingly popular.
The integration of Ondo Stocks marks a significant step towards bringing traditional markets on-chain. Michaels highlights the difficulties faced by global users in accessing U.S. equities, including regulatory constraints, minimum investment requirements, paperwork, settlement delays, and onboarding complexity. Tokenized representations of equities can offer a more seamless path to market exposure.
