Mysten Labs and Google Cloud Introduce Verifiable Agent Arbiter for AI Oversight
Mysten Labs and Google Cloud have introduced the Verifiable Agent Arbiter (VAA), a system designed to verify that enterprise AI agents operate within authorized boundaries. The evidence layer ensures that counterparties, auditors, and regulators can independently confirm agent activities, separate from the platform generating them. The VAA system stores detailed telemetry, such as prompts, model outputs, and policy decisions, privately in Google Cloud Storage, while cryptographic proofs are recorded on Walrus and coordinated via the Sui blockchain.
The system addresses several enterprise needs, including dispute resolution through the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol, incident reconstruction to identify attacks or policy bypasses, and durable record retention compatible with future cryptographic standards. Mysten Labs highlights the relevance of VAA in anticipation of the EU AI Act, which will impose penalties of up to €15 million or 3% of global annual turnover for logging failures starting in 2027. Evan Cheng, co-founder and CEO of Mysten Labs, emphasized the necessity of ensuring AI agents do not exceed their authority, stating that the system provides verifiable evidence for any counterparty.
VAA also integrates with the Sui Agent Payments facilitator, enabling agents to discover services and settle API call payments instantly using the x402 protocol. Initial deployments with enterprise customers are planned, though specific details on customers or a general-availability timeline were not disclosed. The launch aligns with Sui’s focus on the agentic economy, as AI agents increasingly transact across company boundaries.
