Mysterious Donations Flood Satoshi Nakamoto's Wallet
A mysterious Revolut user has sent over $5,000 worth of Bitcoin to Satoshi Nakamoto's wallet in the past 48 hours. This is not an isolated incident, as the wallet has received sporadic donations for years, with some considering them tributes or symbolic 'burns.' The wallet holds approximately 1.096 million BTC, valued at over $71 billion, making Satoshi the biggest BTC holder.
On-chain analytics company Arkham flagged the transactions, which consisted of four transfers from hot wallets linked to Revolut. The transfers included three 0.0181 BTC transactions and one smaller transfer of 0.00369 BTC. The wallet has not moved a single coin since 2011, and the motivation behind the latest donations is unclear.
Some speculate that the transfers could be an attempt to shrink Bitcoin's circulating supply, as coins sent to Satoshi's wallet have never once moved and likely never will. This idea echoes a thesis pushed by Strategy's (MSTR) founder Michael Saylor, who has repeatedly stated that Bitcoin's fixed 21 million coin cap makes it inherently deflationary.
