N. Korea-Linked Hackers Steal Billions in Cryptocurrency Assets

North Korea-linked hackers have conducted a massive cyberattack on engineers in over 100 countries and regions, including Japan. The attack resulted in the theft of at least ¥1.7 billion ($11 million) worth of cryptocurrency assets.

The hackers targeted information technology engineers who applied for fake job listings posted on recruitment websites from December 2025 until around July this year. Over 30,000 devices were infected as a result, with more than 7,000 cryptocurrency assets stolen.

Japanese authorities have confirmed that the hackers can remotely operate devices belonging to supporters in Japan to obtain foreign currency. The attack was made possible through a method used by the hackers.
