NFT Market Dives as Ethereum Rally Fades
The NFT market has experienced a significant decline in value over the past week, with its capitalization falling by 12% to $8.1 billion. This decrease comes on the heels of Ethereum's price drop by 9%, which is closely tied to the NFT market's performance.
The top spot among NFTs remains CryptoPunks, but it has seen a substantial loss of value at $300 million, bringing its market cap down to $2.1 billion. Sales volume for this collection fell by 34% with only 51 transactions taking place over the past week.
On the other hand, Pudgy Penguins rose to second place despite losing $100 million in market value. BTCS Inc.'s recent acquisition of three Pudgy Penguins NFTs for its treasury is a notable example of growing recognition of blue-chip NFTs as legitimate balance sheet assets.
The correlation between Ethereum's price and NFT valuations remains strong, with most collections minted on Ethereum and denominated in ETH. This close relationship suggests that the market may continue to be influenced by changes in Ethereum's price.
