Nigeria Leads Global Crypto Adoption in P2P Trading
Nigeria has taken the top spot in peer-to-peer (P2P) crypto trading globally, according to Chainalysis' 2026 Global Crypto Adoption Index. The country has been a leader in crypto adoption for years and has moved to the front on the measure that says the most about how people actually use digital assets.
In a year where the total value of all cryptocurrencies fell by half, roughly $2.1 trillion, the crypto activity Chainalysis tracks around the world dropped by only 1.6%. People kept using crypto while its price was falling, suggesting many rely on it for payments and savings rather than trading.
The growth in P2P crypto trading is largely driven by stablecoins like USDT, which made up 96% of the $228.7 billion worth of crypto sent between personal wallets within the same country, a 302.9% increase from the previous year.
