North Korea Suspected in $351M Bitget Hack

Share

A massive cyberattack on Bitget, a cryptocurrency exchange, has resulted in the loss of over $351 million, making it the largest known digital-asset theft of 2026. The attack occurred on September 24, 2026, at 18:31 UTC, when unauthorized transfers were made from hot wallets without authorization.

Bitget's security team immediately responded to the incident and began a full investigation. According to the exchange, approximately $351.6 million in assets were affected, but cold wallets and most platform assets remain secure.

The company has paused crypto withdrawals across its network as a precautionary measure and has temporarily suspended withdrawal services while it completes a comprehensive security review.

Bitget's chief executive, Gracy Chen, stated that the attack appears to match patterns associated with North Korean hacking groups. The exchange's $464 million user protection fund is said to be sufficient to absorb the losses from the breach.
