OKX Exec Says Regulation Drives Growth, Not Hinders It
Gracie Lin, Regional CEO for Singapore and Australia at OKX, has an unusual perspective on regulation in the cryptocurrency space. Coming from a background in banking supervision and market analysis at the Monetary Authority of Singapore, she views regulation as a necessary trade-off between innovation and consumer protection.
'Supervisors want innovation but must also protect consumers, protect the financial system, keep a level playing field, and watch what every other jurisdiction is doing,' Lin said. 'The consequences of a regulator getting risk wrong are far larger than those facing any single company.'
Lin's experience at OKX has shown her that regulation can be a source of growth rather than constraint. She noted that Singapore's strict marketing rules have made it harder to reach a broad consumer base, but the exchange has adapted and grown nonetheless.
OKX has seen interest shift towards tokenized real-world assets, including equity derivatives and pre-IPO exposure to AI companies. The exchange is also exploring new products, such as its OKX Card, which allows users in Singapore to spend stablecoins anywhere Visa is accepted.
