OKX Money App Brings Stablecoin Savings and Payments to Emerging Markets
OKX has introduced a new stablecoin savings and payments app called OKX Money, targeting emerging markets in Latin America, Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East. The app allows users to convert deposits from over 50 currencies into dollar-backed stablecoins like USDG, USDC, and USDT, and use them for payments through virtual or physical cards. Eligible customers may earn an annual yield of up to 10% on USDG balances, though the exact terms and eligibility criteria vary by region and customer segment.
The rollout is being carried out market by market, adapting to local legal requirements and regulatory frameworks. OKX Money is designed to integrate stablecoin use into everyday finance, moving beyond speculative trading. The app enables users to hold, transfer, and spend stablecoins, potentially earning yield without staking or lockup periods for qualifying balances.
OKX did not disclose how the yield is funded, which raises questions about the sustainability and risk of the program. The app’s launch comes amid growing regulatory scrutiny on stablecoin yield models, particularly under the US GENIUS Act and EU restrictions on interest for single-currency stablecoins. As OKX Money expands, users should watch for changes in qualifying tiers, yield structures, and compliance with local regulations.
