Open Standard Launches Open USD Stablecoin to Kill Conversion Fees
The Open USD (OUSD) stablecoin has gone live, according to its creator Open Standard. The launch was announced in a blog post on September 30.
Businesses can integrate with OUSD through four paths: Stripe, Coinbase, Mastercard, and Visa. Each integration offers APIs and tools for building services like settlement, payment orchestration, trading, FX, wallets, cards, and more. The mint and burn functionality supports a 1:1 USD conversion rate at no cost.
Open Standard announced in June that OUSD was set to launch later in the year, with several dozen companies already signed up to use it. Those firms include Visa, Google, Mastercard, Coinbase, American Express, DoorDash, and Plasma, which is providing the blockchain infrastructure for instant money movement.
Zach Abrams, Open Standard's Founding CEO, said that existing stablecoins have strengths but need to be open, low-cost, high-throughput, broadly accessible, and aligned with businesses' interests. OUSD aims to fill this gap by being a stablecoin built for the internet economy, designed by the businesses growing it.
