Options Surge in Crypto Derivatives Market, Bybit Leads Growth
Crypto derivatives markets are undergoing significant changes as options gain popularity among traders. According to a recent report from Glassnode, options now account for nearly half of Bitcoin's notional open interest, up from about 25% in the past.
The growth of options is driven by their versatility and ability to help manage risk and express market views. The report highlights that options are increasingly being used to price specific market events and volatility, rather than just taking directional positions.
Glassnode's data shows that Bybit has nearly tripled its share of Bitcoin options volume over the past year, reaching 28%. This growth is driven by active turnover rather than open positions, indicating a mature derivatives market with liquidity being actively traded and recycled.
