Paxos USDG Stablecoin Launches on Arbitrum with Zero Initial Supply
Paxos launched its USDG stablecoin on the Arbitrum network on October 6, though initial data shows no supply of the token on the chain. According to DefiLlama, USDG has a total circulation of $3.083 billion across six chains, with Arbitrum notably absent from the distribution. The largest portion of USDG, 46.2%, resides on the X Layer chain, followed by Robinhood Chain and Solana. The Arbitrum stablecoin market, however, starts from a zero balance, meaning USDG must be minted or bridged before it appears on the network.
The Arbitrum Foundation has joined the Global Dollar Network, with integrations planned across multiple platforms, including Fluid, Morpho, GMX, Maple, and Kraken. Paxos has not issued a formal press release, and the announcement was shared as a press note. The launch also includes a proposal to add 100 million ARB to the DeFi Renaissance Incentive Program, though this has not been approved yet.
Brendan Ma, head of investment strategy at the Arbitrum Foundation, highlighted the appeal of USDG, stating that it provides Arbitrum and its builders a stake in the growth upside through reserve income sharing. However, the exact percentage share for Arbitrum remains undisclosed. Paxos operates under the Monetary Authority of Singapore for USDG, separate from its other regulatory charters.
USDG enters a competitive Arbitrum stablecoin market where USDC dominates with 61.58% of the total $3.78 billion stablecoin supply. Displacing USDC’s share will require yield or distribution advantages, which the reserve-sharing model and proposed ARB incentives aim to provide. The success of these efforts will be visible in chain data within weeks.
