PayPal's PYUSD Stablecoin Expands to 70 New Markets Globally
PayPal's PYUSD stablecoin has expanded its reach to 70 new markets globally, marking a significant milestone for the payments giant. The dollar-pegged stablecoin is now available in dozens of countries, including Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, Uganda, and Singapore, where users can buy, hold, send, and receive PYUSD directly through their PayPal accounts.
The expansion follows a rapid growth trajectory for PYUSD, with its circulating supply exceeding $4 billion and pushing it to the seventh-largest stablecoin by market capitalization. Paxos issues the stablecoin, which operates under federal regulatory oversight.
The cross-border payments play is a key aspect of PYUSD's appeal, as transactions settle on blockchain rails, reducing both cost and time dramatically compared to traditional remittance services. PayPal is also offering rewards on PYUSD holdings in many of the new markets, although this feature is not available in Singapore and the UK.
With its expanded reach, PYUSD is poised to become a major player in the stablecoin market, competing with other established players like USDT and USDC.
