PayPay Integrates Binance Pay for Foreign Visitors in Japan
PayPay, a popular mobile payment service in Japan, has integrated Binance Pay for eligible foreign visitors. The integration, which began on September 30, allows tourists to use their cryptocurrency balances on Binance to make payments at participating physical stores in Japan. The merchants receive the amounts in local currency, thanks to the cross-border network HIVEX. According to PayPay, the customer uses their crypto balances to cover a purchase in yen, with the conversion made at the time of payment.
The feature is exclusive to visitors who have completed identity verification on Binance, and is not available to residents in Japan or Binance Japan users who live in the country. Payments are made inside the Binance app, where users can show a PayPay payment code for the merchant to scan or read the store's QR code, using the exchange's balance in a QR checkout.
Binance supports more than 100 cryptocurrencies, including USDT, USDC, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and BNB. The company also notes that payments and refunds are separate transactions, and the refunded amount may vary with exchange-rate fluctuations and applicable spreads. Additionally, the new option does not work in all locations, with exclusions such as online platforms, some stores, and establishments that require Japanese identity verification.
