Peirce Exits SEC After 8-Year Stint as Crypto Regulation Advocate
Hester Peirce, a longtime advocate for cryptocurrency in Washington, has left her position as a commissioner at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) after an eight-year stint. Peirce was a key architect of the Trump administration's approach to digital asset regulation. She was at times a lone voice pushing for an embrace of digital assets within the SEC.
Peirce's departure comes at a time when the SEC is taking a more aggressive stance on cryptocurrency regulation. The commission has been cracking down on unregistered token offerings and has been exploring ways to regulate decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms. Despite this, Peirce's departure is seen as a significant loss for the crypto community.
