Peirce Predicts Durability of Cryptocurrency Regulations
Outgoing SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce predicts that as people get used to using cryptocurrencies under new rules, it will be harder for regulators to take them away. This comes after she announced her resignation from the SEC on X and shared a letter thanking President Donald Trump for the opportunity to serve.
Peirce believes that using regulatory frameworks to build 'good things' can make rules more durable and less likely to change in the future. She thinks people will be hesitant to give up technologies that are popular and widely used, citing her nearly 10 years of experience at the SEC.
She's leaving the SEC after almost a decade to teach securities law and writing at Regent University School of Law in November. Peirce hopes that the Clarity Act could still get passed despite its failure to advance in the Senate this month, saying people are 'still trying' to move it forward.
