Peirce Pushes for Crypto Regulatory Reforms
SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce has expressed her concerns about regulations that restrict ordinary Americans from investing in crypto projects and businesses, while allowing them to gamble freely.
In an interview with Scott Melker, Peirce argued that regulators should protect investors without 'infantilizing' them. She emphasized the importance of granting investors the freedom to decide where they put their money.
Pierce believes that regulators can ease crypto investing by implementing two approaches for raising capital: allowing projects to raise up to $5 million under a simplified startup exemption, or enabling projects to raise up to $75 million with stricter requirements.
The SEC Commissioner also discussed the potential of tokenized stocks trading on permissionless blockchains. She suggested that tokenized securities could retain the same rights as underlying shares and allow issuers to object to tokenization.
