Pepe's 3.8% Drop Attributed to Market Softness and Consolidation
Pepe (PEPE) experienced a 3.8% drop in value over the last 24 hours, but it's not due to a single negative event. According to CoinMarketCap, the drop is more likely the result of post-rally consolidation and the broader market's softness.
Canary Capital's filing for a spot PEPE ETF in the United States is actually seen as a structurally bullish signal, aiming to list it on Cboe BZX and hold PEPE directly in a trust structure. However, there is no simultaneous report of rejection, delay, or regulatory pushback tied to this amendment that would explain the intraday selloff.
PEPE has broken a 22-month downtrend line from its December 2024 all-time high and is now retesting that breakout region. The technical backdrop suggests that the recent larger move was up, and the last day is a pause or retest, not a new bearish catalyst.
The broader crypto market weakened modestly over the same 24-hour window, with a drop of about 2.2% in the total crypto market cap. Derivatives open interest declined roughly 3.8 to 8%, and average funding rates compressed by more than 80%. This indicates leverage and speculative positioning being reduced.
