Petrobras and Cardano Team Up on Blockchain-Based Fuel Projects

Petrobras, a Brazilian state-controlled energy company, has partnered with Cardano to develop two blockchain-based projects focused on environmentally friendly fuels.

The first project, aimed at sustainable aviation fuel, uses the Cardano blockchain to verify environmental data and prevent the double-claiming of emission reduction rights.

The system, developed by Petrobras, represents each sustainable aviation fuel characteristic with a standardized token on Cardano, which can be created, transferred, and retired once the environmental benefit has been used up.

The second project focuses on Diesel R, a product containing renewable raw materials, and aims to record data on Cardano throughout the fuel's production, transportation, and usage phases.

Both projects are currently in the research phase, and neither Petrobras nor the Cardano Foundation has announced a date for large-scale commercial use.
