Petrobras, Brazil's state-controlled energy giant, has unveiled two new blockchain applications built on Cardano technology. The company aims to make tracing lower-carbon fuels more efficient with these applications.

The first application is focused on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which allows airlines and passengers to claim environmental benefits linked to specific quantities of SAF. This is done by creating tokens that represent the claims, ensuring an auditable record of who is entitled to these benefits.

The second application connects data generated at different stages of the fuel's lifecycle, from production to use. This system links cover production, transportation, and eventual use of the renewable fuel.

Petrobras has collaborated with Cardano before, dating back to a partnership announced in December 2023. That initiative focused on educating Petrobras employees about blockchain concepts and enterprise-level applications.
