Petrobras Unveils Cardano-Based Blockchain Tools for Sustainable Fuels

Brazilian state-controlled energy giant Petrobras has developed two new blockchain applications on the Cardano network. The tools aim to streamline the process of tracking lower-carbon fuels, specifically sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and Diesel R, a diesel product with renewable content.

The first application solves the problem of proving who is entitled to claim environmental benefits linked to SAF production. This is done by tokenizing certificates checked against CORSIA and other standards, allowing airlines or individual passenger journeys to allocate these tokens.

The second application connects data generated at different stages of the fuel's lifecycle, linking production, transportation, and eventual use of renewable fuels. Petrobras has a prior relationship with Cardano, having used their infrastructure before for internal administrative purposes.
