Phantom Drops Sui Support, Exposing Wallet Provider Power Play

Phantom, a popular crypto wallet provider, will remove Sui from its interface on September 24. The decision marks the end of support for the Sui blockchain in Phantom, which was first introduced in January 2025.

The separation has raised questions about the power that wallet providers hold over user funds. While Phantom cannot erase a user's coins, it can remove access to screens, transaction tools, and app connections through which people use the chain.

Users who had Sui assets stored in Phantom will be able to restore access through another compatible wallet. However, those who want to continue using Phantom will need to swap out of native SUI or import their account into Slush.

The decision demonstrates the ability of a major interface to remove a chain from its platform, but the public record cannot show how much Sui activity depended on Phantom.
