Police Bust Perak-Based Bitcoin Mining Syndicate
Perak police have busted a suspected Bitcoin mining syndicate operating in vacant shoplots across the state. Authorities raided four premises, including three in Sungai Siput and one in Perak Tengah, and seized a total of 168 Bitcoin mining machines.
Police detected suspected illegal electricity connections being used to power the operations during the raids on Monday. In Sungai Siput, 132 mining machines were confiscated from premises at Sungai Siput Parade, Taman SS2 Perdana, and Taman Alamanda.
A 39-year-old man who claimed to be a caretaker of one of the premises was detained during the raid but reportedly had no knowledge of the Bitcoin mining activities. Police are still investigating to identify the owner of the machines and those involved in the operation.
