Polish Olympic Committee Head Arrested Over Crypto-Linked Graft Probe

Share

Radosław Piesiewicz, the head of Poland's Olympic Committee, was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of taking bribes from a crypto trader in exchange for sponsorship deals.

The government accuses Zondacrypto, a crypto fund that has stopped trading, of having links to nationalist opposition groups, organized crime, and Russian intelligence services.

Piesiewicz is suspected of receiving kickbacks from Zondacrypto, which was responsible for signing a sponsorship agreement with the Olympic committee.

Under this deal, Olympic medallists at the Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina would be awarded prizes in cryptocurrency.

The government estimates that Zondacrypto's disappearance caused 350 million zlotys (€80 million) in losses, with around 30,000 people falling victim to the company.
