Polygon Payment Channels Hit Record 11 Million Updates Per Second

Polygon has successfully tested its new agent payment system, which processed over 11 million verified payment updates per second across 25 independently scaling hubs. The test was conducted on a live devnet and used an OpenRouter style inference API.

Individual payments moved through the channels off-chain, while accumulated payment states were settled on Polygon in batches. The system uses x402 for payment requests and allows AI agents to pay for tokens, API calls, data, and other services as they consume them.

Polygon said that a larger hub fleet could process more than 100 million payment updates per second based on the architecture tested.
