Public Companies Now Hold Over 1.27 Million BTC, Worth USD 107 Billion
Corporate Bitcoin holdings have become a significant part of institutional crypto adoption. According to data from BitcoinTreasuries, 196 public companies collectively hold approximately 1.27 million BTC, worth roughly USD 107 billion at a Bitcoin price near USD 84,000. Strategy dominates the category, holding about 847,666 BTC, or roughly 4% of Bitcoin's fixed 21-million-coin maximum supply.
Companies can hold Bitcoin for different reasons, including its potential long-term appreciation and diversification. Some use BTC as part of a capital-allocation strategy, while others tie shareholder exposure more closely to the cryptocurrency. Strategy was the first publicly traded company to adopt Bitcoin as its primary treasury reserve asset, and its holdings grew 11% to 847,666 BTC in its second-quarter 2026 results.
MARA Holdings also reported holding 35,577 BTC as of September 30, including 9,270 BTC loaned or pledged as collateral. The company expects to monetize its Bitcoin holdings opportunistically to fund operations, provide liquidity, and support capital projects. However, Bitcoin's price volatility can directly affect reported earnings, and corporate Bitcoin treasuries can amplify both gains and losses.
