Pump.fun Fires Employees Before Token Payouts
Pump.fun, a Solana-based memecoin launchpad, has been embroiled in controversy after reportedly laying off employees two months before they were due to receive millions of dollars' worth of PUMP tokens.
According to a recent report by Sandmark, the company fired an undisclosed number of workers in April, just two months before they would have received their allocated tokens based on agreements signed in 2025.
The employees were due to receive a quarter of their allocated tokens in June 2026, under the terms of their agreements. However, it appears that Pump.fun's rapid growth may have led to layoffs as co-founder Noah Tweedale stated that the company 'grew too quickly,' resulting in job cuts.
Pump.fun has faced criticism in the past, including a lawsuit alleging that the company operated a 'rigged' investment machine and another regarding its maximal extractable value (MEV) practices. The recent layoffs have added to these concerns, raising questions about the company's business model and treatment of employees.
