Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed the 'Digital Currency and Digital Rights Law,' marking the country's first regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies. The law, which will take effect on September 1, 2026, with full compliance required by July 1, 2027, aims to establish a legal basis for crypto transactions in Russia.

The legislation does not immediately allow for the use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment, but it sets the stage for future development. The law will require businesses and individuals involved in cryptocurrency activities to obtain licenses and comply with strict regulations.
