Pyth Network Plunges on Bearish Sentiment and Supply Overhang
Pyth Network (PYTH) has taken a hit in recent hours, plummeting by 3.64% over the last 42 hours. This decline is largely attributed to bearish sentiment surrounding the token's heavy unlock schedule and supply overhang.
A Japanese language post on X highlighted that approximately 2.125 billion PYTH will be unlocked in May 2026, followed by another 2.125 billion scheduled for May 2027, totaling around 42.5% of the total 10 billion supply. The poster claimed 'price will not rise for a long time' due to this selling pressure.
The renewed focus on these unlocks has likely nudged marginal flows to the sell and short side during this 42-hour window.
Additionally, a cluster of short-term trading setups and fading of earlier bullish enthusiasm around Pyth's business metrics have contributed to the decline. Earlier in the week, Pyth Pro finished July with about $7.49 million in annual recurring revenue, up 22% in a single month. However, traders are now calling out a 'potential breakdown setup' on PYTH around the $0.039 area.
With lower volume and thinner liquidity, this flow has been enough to produce a mid-single-digit percentage drawdown over roughly 42 hours on top of the prior weekly decline.
