Pyth Network's API Upgrade Freezes Unpatched Smart Contracts Across 300 DeFi Protocols

Pyth Network's recent API overhaul has left some DeFi protocols vulnerable to freezing due to unpatched smart contracts. The oracle network missed its deadline of August 26, introducing a new requirement for developers who directly call its Hermes price-delivery service: they must now include an API key in their requests.

According to Pyth's migration guide, developers who use a protocol that already integrates the oracle do not need to take direct action. However, those who make direct calls or integrate with Sui, a blockchain platform, are required to update their authentication or configuration.

The upgraded Hermes endpoint serves payloads intended for the upgraded Pyth Core contract. The guide warns that changing the endpoint without updating the contract generation, or vice versa, can leave an application unable to verify price updates.
