Quantum-Secure Bitcoin Transaction Completed on Mainnet
A major breakthrough has been achieved in Bitcoin's quantum security. StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy successfully completed the first quantum-resistant transaction on the Bitcoin mainnet, as recorded in block 964,199.
The test, which used StarkWare's Quantum Safe Bitcoin (QSB) method, demonstrated that Bitcoin can be protected against future quantum computers without altering its current rules.
However, the process comes with significant drawbacks. The cost of a QSB transaction is estimated to be around $150 to $200 per transaction, making it inaccessible for regular users. Additionally, the proof generation requires extensive computing power and hours across multiple high-end graphics cards.
