Revolut Ditches Tether USDt Amid EU Regulatory Pressure
Digital bank Revolut is dropping support for Tether USDt (USDT) after August 31, citing the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets framework (MiCA). The move affects millions of users who will see any leftover USDT balances automatically converted into their base fiat currency at the day's market rate.
The delisting follows Revolut's own MiCA license, which it secured from Cyprus' CySEC in November 2025. Tether has declined to meet the regulation's authorization requirements for its dollar-pegged stablecoin USDT, with CEO Paolo Ardoino criticizing the reserve rules as creating systemic risk.
The removal of USDT support will be staggered over several weeks, starting with purchases ending on July 6 and new deposits being halted on July 30. Customers can still hold USDT in self-custody wallets, but it will no longer be available for trading or use within Revolut's European app.
