Revolut Hacked: Group Demands $3M in Monero for Stolen Customer Data

A group calling itself 'iamnotavillain' has demanded $3 million in Monero (XMR), a privacy-focused cryptocurrency, from Revolut after compromising the personal information of some European customers.

The attackers claim they will begin selling the stolen data if their demand is not met within 24 hours. This comes after an Italian government domain was used to trick Revolut into disclosing customer information in what has been described as a 'sophisticated external impersonation scam'.

Revolut initially refused to disclose how many users were affected, but later revealed that the information of 680 European customers had been compromised. The company emphasized that their funds remain untouched.

The domain used in the attack belongs to the Reggio Calabria prefecture, and the public prosecutor's office for the region has opened an inquiry into the incident.
